Types of Replacement Windows
There are several types of replacement windows. The type of window is determined by the way in which the sash moves or operates within the window frame. The sash is the title used to describe the framed glass component of any window. For instance, a double hung replacement window includes an upper and lower sash (photo - right). The horizontal frame of a sash is known as the rail and the vertical frame a stile. Within the sash sets the insulated glass (IG) unit. The sashes operate or move within the window jamb within the sash channel. The type of window selected for any given home depends upon the need for ventilation, egress and architectural design.
